Donate to play this weekend at The Learning Train

Children can play for free at The Learning Train on Saturday, Aug. 30. Ahead of the holiday season, owner and teacher, Keri Hebert, is asking for food donations instead of the normal $8 to play. "We want to give back to our local community by partnering with an organization dedicated to providing food to those in Lafayette Parish who have a genuine need," she said.

Goods will be donated to Food Net - The Greater Acadiana Food Bank, and if parents don't have a chance to stay and play, Hebert encourages the community to drop off food to help those in need. Parents or caregivers who want to take advantage of free play are asked to donate five food items.

Children ages 6 months - 4 years old are welcome from
8 a.m. - 11 a.m., and play time is limited to one hour. The Learning Train is located at 2100 Verot School Rd.

Food Net Executive Director Julie LaFleur said the following items are needed to help stock:

Corn bread mix
Macaroni & cheese
Pasta
Tomato sauce
Canned fruit
Canned vegetables
Beans in a can
Soup
Tuna
Chili
Beef stew
