DNA to positively identify bodies found in burned car

Investigators are waiting on DNA test results to confirm the identities of the man and woman found dead in a burned out SUV in Maurice. "We believe we know the identities of the victims," State Fire Marshal Deputy Chief Brant Thompson said. However, neither the State Fire Marshals Office nor the Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office will release names until the man and woman are positively identified. Brant said results will take a minimum of 10 days.

Investigators say the fire appears to have been intentionally set. The bodies were discovered around 1:00 in the morning after firefighters were called out to the burning vehicle on April 16.

The state fire marshal, the Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office and the Vermilion Parish Coroner's Office are working together to bring this investigation to a close.
