The Opelousas Police Dept. is glad to report that two cases have been closed as a result of efficient and dedicated investigations by members of the Special Operations Section. John Hiram Buff had been in the Opelousas Police Dept. jail since July 27, 2010, for the theft of some copper from a local business. Today's charged stemmed from a incident which occurred in November of 2009 at the business place of Dupuis Memorial, located on Vidrine St. The initial investigation determined that someone had broken into a company vehicle on the property, and had attempted to steal a radio. Some of the perpetrator's blood was left inside of the vehicle. This as we know now is probably the most reliable form of identifying suspects available to law enforcement today. It is a matter of time before the CODIS (Combined DNA Index System) matches the suspect already in custody.
