Lafayette native, Jefferson Caffery, was the U.S. Ambassador to Egypt from 1949-1955. While in Egypt, Caffery collected a variety of artifacts from ancient digs in Egypt. A few objects were exhibited in 1981 and later in 1990 through the Dupre library at UL Lafayette. However, the collection has never been exhibited to the public in its entirety. This summer you will have an opportunity to enjoy the first exhibition of the art and artifact in this fascinating collection. The Paul and Lulu Hilliard University Art Museum is proud to present Finding Egypt in Louisiana: the Ambassador Caffery Collection, which includes over 40 artifacts from Ancient Egypt.
