LAFAYETTE, La. - A medical provider breaks the news: Your child or a child in your care has Type 1 diabetes. You are not alone.
"Nearly 26 million people in the United States have some form of diabetes," explained Dr. Janna Flint, Pediatric Endocrinologist with the Kids Specialty Center. "With proper management and support, people with diabetes lead long and productive lives."
Dr. Flint and Leslie Fontenot, Diabetes Educator, host a monthly Diabetes Support Group at the Kids Specialty Center on the Women's & Children's Hospital campus at 4600 Ambassador Caffery Parkway. Meetings are held at 5:45 p.m. on the last Tuesday of each month and typically last about an hour.
Meetings are open to the public. There is no cost to attend. Anyone interested in attending may call 1-877-302-2731 for more information.
"By meeting monthly," Fontenot said, "Acadiana families affected by Type 1 diabetes can come together and share ideas for success and offer each other a level of understanding no one else can provide."
