DESTREHAN, La. (AP) - St. Charles Parish emergency officials say 12 homes in Destrehan have been evacuated as a precaution following the derailment of several Canadian National Railroad cars.
No injuries have been reported and no leaks have been detected, according to Renee Simpson of the St. Charles Parish emergency office.
Simpson said about seven cars left the tracks about 6 a.m. Wednesday, south of the intersection of Destrehan's Becky Lane and Madewood Drive. State police hazardous materials officials were on the scene with St. Charles fire fighters and sheriff's deputies. It was not immediately clear what was in the derailed cars.
