Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a three-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 112 west of Louisiana Highway 377 in Allen Parish that claimed the life of a man from DeRidder Sunday morning.
According to police reports, the crash occurred shortly after 6 a.m. when a 1990 Toyota 4 Runner traveling east on LA 112 traveled off of the roadway in a slight curve for unknown reasons. State Police say the driver, 52-year-old Michael D. Cooley of DeRidder, overcorrected and re-entered the roadway striking a westbound log truck driven by 33-year-old Harlen Johnson of Pitkin.
Police say the driver of the log truck attempted to avoid the crash and sideswiped another log truck that was traveling east driven by 56-year-old Freddie W. Busby of DeRidder.
Cooley, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene. Neither of the other drivers was injured.
Police say routine toxicology samples were obtained for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.
Troop D has investigated 19 fatal crashes resulting in 21 fatalities this year.
