DeQUINCY, La. (AP) - The DeQuincy City Council has voted to introduce an ordinance modifying the city's alcohol sales.

The American Press reports council members discussed the measure at its April meeting and considered making amendments to the revised amendment Monday.

The original ordinance -- adopted in the 1940's -- prohibits alcoholic drinks with more than 3.2-percent alcohol content-by volume to be sold when the establishment is within 300 feet of a school. The proposed changes would modify that distance to 200 feet and increase the limit to six percent.

Mayor Lawrence Henagan says public hearing will be held June 11 before the council takes a vote on the issue.
