Deputy: Bus Driver Ignored Train Crossing Signals, Drove around Gates

A Lafayette Parish school bus driver was ticketed Monday for allegedly driving his bus around a railroad gate when a train was approaching. Sheriff's deputies say the incident took place at the railroad crossing on Verot School Road near the Evangeline Thruway. According to the traffic citation, Daniel Gary drove his bus--and at least 30 children--through the gates while a train was approximately 200 feet from the crossing. Gary was cited for disregarding railroad crossing lights.

According to the Lafayette Parish School System, Gary services Edgar Martin Middle and Katherine Drexel Elementary Schools. Transportation officials say Gary is driving on his route today.
