A St. Mary Parish deputy has been arrested for malfeasance in office.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office Spokesperson Traci Landry says on April 12, 2013, narcotic division detectives intercepted a package at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center in Centerville.
According to authorities, Derek Martin, a deputy with the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office, was involved in bringing contraband into the jail.
On Thursday Martin was arrested at the SMPSO in Morgan City on the following charges:
Malfeasance in office
Principle to possession of marijuana with intent to distribute
Principle to possession of a Legend Drug (Desyrel) with intent to distribute
Entering contraband into a penal institution
Authorities say Martin was booked into the parish jail before being transported to another agency for housing.
