The Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office says that it is investigating the body found on Victor Drive as a "suspicious death."
Deputies say they were initially en route to a shooting. However, they are now saying that no shots were fired. Deputies are also declining to state what caused the death. They add that no details about the cause of death will be released until an autopsy is released.
Officials add that Branch Elementary School and Rayne High School were placed on lockdown until deputies could get in touch with the victim's relatives who were on those campuses. Deputies also say that the lockdowns were implemented to keep other people from passing along the information to those relatives before they could reach them.
Acadia Parish Schools Superintendent John Bourque tells KATC that the former spouse of the person involved in the incident works for one of the schools. Sheriff's deputies say the children of the deceased involved went to the schools placed on lockdown.
