A New Iberia man is in jail after sheriff's deputies say he constructed a very primitive homemade explosive device. Officials blocked off an area near the corner of East Dale and Cherokee Streets this morning during their investigation. They say the suspect, 26-year-old Thadeus Hurst, threw the device at a neighbor during an argument and threatened to throw another into his house. Deputies would not say whether or not the device exploded, but they did say no one was injured. Hurst faces several charges, including manufacturing and possessing a bomb, terrorizing, and arson.
