Deputies arrest woman accused in Ville Platte armed robbery & carjacking

Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of woman accused of crashing an elderly woman's vehicle after she allegedly robbed her and carjacked her.

On Monday morning at 7:08 a.m., deputies said they responded to a complaint that a woman had "conned an elderly lady into driving her to the hospital. According to the report, the suspect, Kimberly Voohries, 27, of Ville Platte allegedly stuck an object into the driver's side and told her to give her money, or she would "cut her."

According to deputies, the victim told Voohries that she could cash a check for Voohries in a local business and she drove to that location. Deputies explained that Voohries took off on Belaire Cove Rd. in Ville Platte in the driver's vehicle after waiting in vain for the driver to return from cashing the check.

Voohries was apprehended after she crashed the vehicle into a ditch just off of Belaire Cove Rd. She was charged with attempted armed robbery and theft of motor vehicle.
