Deputies arrest Alexandria couple for alleged child cruelty

Deputies, after a referral last month by the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), arrested an Alexandria couple for alleged child cruelty.

Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office responded on July 18 to the 2800 block of Woodlawn Drive in Alexandria. Deputies said that DCFS already was at the scene investigating allegations of possible child abuse on a juvenile who lived in a residence there.

Following the investigation, detectives developed probable cause to support the allegations and arrested
Michael Earl Richards, 50, and Melissa Blanche Richards, 42, on warrants for single counts of Cruelty to Juveniles. The pair were booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center, where they were later released on bond. Bond for Michael was set at $1,500.00 and bond for Melissa was set at $750.00
