Delhi moving to radio-read water meters

DELHI, La. (AP) - The town of Delhi will issue $1.87 million in water revenue bonds to supply more than a thousand customers' water meters with automatic reading devices.

Mayor Lynn Lewis tells The News-Star residents' current water meters will be replaced with a radio-read water meter which will allow the meters to send a signal to town hall every few minutes.

The town hopes it can bid out the project soon and have all the water meters replaced by spring 2013.

Lewis says the radio-read meters can send a signal every few minutes from each meter to a tower at town hall.

He says the new radio-read water metering system will make meter reading and billing more efficient by saving labor and ensuring accuracy.
