The Market scheduled for tomorrow, May 11 has been cancelled; the grand opening of the Delcambre Seafood & Farmers Market has been postponed until the next scheduled Market date of June 1. As planned, it will be held from 8 am - 1 pm under the oaks of the Shrimp Festival grounds. Market planners expect the majority of the 70 vendors scheduled for tomorrow to be present in three weeks with plenty of seafood, produce, plants, and homemade food and crafts.
"You know what they say about the best laid plans, and our ‘rain or shine' policy was for light rains or passing showers-not the significant weather we experienced last night or expected today," said Marti Harrell, Market Manager. "We are looking at this as a blessing in disguise. Our plan for the grand opening was for it to coincide with the opening of shrimp season and the start of summer vegetables. Cold snaps have delayed both, so we think this was meant to be."
Events and activities planned for tomorrow will carry over to the June date, including cooking demonstrations, live music, and incredible food. More details will follow on the Market's Facebook page and web site, DelcambreMarket.org.
The Delcambre Boat Poker Run and Q-ing on the Bayou will be held as planned from noon - 10 PM tomorrow at the Delcambre Boat Dock; visit www.delcambreboatparade.com for details.
"We are not sure if René and Lil Man will make it in with fresh shrimp, so check DelcambreDirectSeafood.com for updates," said Harrell.
