If you regularly drive on Dulles Drive near Westgate Road, you'll probably find out this week how much longer you will have to use an alternate route.
The Lafayette Consolidated Government Public Works Department is evaluating damage after a crane truck went off the bridge on Dulles and fell into a ditch Thursday morning. Public Works Street Superintendent Jeff Olivier says the decision on whether to replace or repair bridge should be made by Wednesday or Thursday.
"That decision has not been made yet," Olivier said Monday. "We're doing a very thorough evaluation of the slab."
The bridge is between Westgate Road and Domingue Street.
Two panels of the concrete driving surface show obvious signs of damage, and the railing on one side of the bridge was wiped out.
