MONROE, La. (AP) - The final decision on the Ouachita Parish Police Jury's proposed mandatory garbage collection requirement for rural residents and businesses has been deferred until March.
The final vote on the proposed amendment to the existing ordinance was supposed to take place during Monday's Police Jury meeting, following a public hearing.
However, Juror Pat Moore announced at the conclusion of the public hearing that more time was needed to discuss the amendment.
The ordinance amendment would require each property owner of an occupied structure in the unincorporated areas of Ouachita Parish to have a contractual agreement for the collection and disposal of garbage from their respective property. Presently, the parish ordinances do not specify how residents are to dispose of their garbage.
