ALEXANDRIA, La. (AP) - Nearly nine months after an agreement was
reached to sell the closed Cowboy Town arena, the deal still has
not been completed.
Paul Maxwell, a local real estate broker handling the
transaction, told The Town Talk (http://bit.ly/pAkypM) the sale is
still in process.
Maxwell - to whom Cowboy Town owner Ken Moran deferred all
questions - would not identify the prospective buyer.
The list price for the property was $3.5 million in late 2010
before the property just off Interstate 49 at Rapides Station went
under contract in early 2011, Maxwell said.
Identity of the buyer for the 27.75-acre site has prompted great
interest in the Alexandria area.
Northwestern State University and Louisiana State University at
Alexandria said they were not involved, while officials of
Louisiana College in Pineville declined to comment.
In May, Louisiana College President Joe Aguillard said he had
signed a confidentiality agreement regarding the purchase of a site
for a new film school for the college. Earlier in October, college
officials said no new details were available on the film school
A Moran spokesman has said the buyer would take responsibility
of announcing the final sale of the arena.
Maxwell would not confirm the buyer currently under contract is
the same as at the beginning of the year. If a new buyer were at
the table, it would not be the first time an interested party was
unable to complete its purchase for the site.
