A family is making funeral arrangements after a deadly house fire. The fire broke out after 4 o'clock this morning on Highway 358 near Lawtell. Investigators think the fire started in the living room.
Three of the five people in the home were able to make it out, but sadly two people were killed. The victims being identified tonight as a husband and wife, Lou Anna and Willis Semien.
This is all that's left of the Semien's family home. Sarah Semien woke up to a nightmare.
My niece can running to the room and she was telling me the house was on fire," said Semien.
Semien, her 11-year-old niece and her parents' 14-year-old foster child were able to get out through a window, Semien went back in to get her parents.
"I tried to wake up my mom, she's kind of heavy set and she had been sick and I was trying to pick her up," said Semien. "I couldn't do it, but I tried, my dad got up, he tried to go to the front to put it out."
She says they went to a neighbors house to call 911 but it was too late, the fire was spreading fast.
"My mom they were really good people, they took care of foster kids they had an open home," said Semien. "Everybody around knew them, they're were just an outgoing elderly couple."
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but fire investigators are looking at the possibility of an electrical malfunction.
