Local hospital to administer vaccinations Saturday, Nov. 21 to targeted groups who meet specific requirements
NEW IBERIA, La. - Dauterive Hospital will administer the H1N1 vaccination for free to targeted groups from 9 a.m. to noon -- while supplies last - Saturday, Nov. 21 in Meeting Room 2 on the hospital campus, 600 N. Lewis Ave.
Vaccinations only will be administered to:
· Pregnant women
· People who live with or provide care for infants younger than 6 months (e.g. parents, siblings and daycare providers)
· Healthcare and emergency medical services personnel
· Ages 6 months through 24 years
· Ages 25 years to 64 years who have certain medical conditions that predispose them to more severe disease, such as diabetes, asthma, heart/lung disease, etc.
The state Health and Hospitals Department Immunization Program recently issued these new guidelines to ensure Louisiana residents with a greater risk for acquiring H1N1 Influenza have the opportunity to be vaccinated as supplies of the vaccine coming into the state begin to increase.
"It is imperative that we do what we can to break the cycle of infection in the communities we serve," said Anna Burke, Chief Nursing Officer for Dauterive Hospital. "We know Teche Area residents are concerned about the spread of this virus and the impact it could have on their loved ones. We also know there are healthcare providers out there who continue to wait for vaccinations to arrive."
"Dauterive Hospital is committed to care and improvement of human life in the communities we serve," Burke said. "This clinic is just one more way we are transforming that mission from a simple statement into a call to action that promotes the health and well-being of our fellow Teche Area residents."
