DA's office reviewing vehicular homicide charge

The case of a man accused of drunk driving and killing a Lafayette woman has made its way to District Attorney Mike Harson's office. Fred Dutton, Jr., 23, is charged with vehicular homicide in a crash that killed 22-year-old Rachael Sonnier. Dutton was initially charged with OWI, but his charge was upgraded, and he turned himself in to authorities on Dec. 4.
Investigators have turned in their findings to the DA. Harson tells KATC he has assigned the report to one of his assistant district attorneys for formal review. After the review, Harson will decide whether to file formal charges against Dutton.
The accident happened on Nov. 21 at the corner of Kaliste Saloom Road and Rue Louis XIV.
