The St. Martin Parish District Attorney's Office is investigating whether a 91-year-old woman's recent death is a result of a gunshot wound she received in September. Mildred Hebert died on Friday, January 11 at St. Martin Hospital in Breaux Bridge. She was shot on September 1, and the man accused of shooting her, Darren Duhon, was charged with attempted first degree murder. "If the shooting was a substantial factor in her death then our office will be compelled to present this case to a grand jury seeking an indictment for murder," St. Martin Parish Assistant District Attorney Chester Cedars said.
Hebert was one of three people shot on Sept. 1. Duhon is accused of shooting Hebert's daughter and her husband, former Breaux Bridge Police chief Charlie Thibodeaux. Hebert and his wife survived the shooting, and Duhon was arrested the same day in Abbeville.
