There's no shortage of boaters out on the water this Memorial Day.
Boater, Ken Fawcett said, "That’s probably the most boats I've seen in a good while here."
Another boater, Mac Thomas, said "I've seen more people fishing out here than I normally do."
Cypremort Point is always a hot spot on holidays, but boaters say it's even more crowded today because oil has shut down much of Louisiana’s waters.
"The oil shut me down fishing below Houma so I'm over here fishing," Thomas said.
Fishermen choosing to spend their day at Cypermort Point isn't just creating traffic on the water, it's also helping local businesses."
Michael Olander, Bayview Inn manager, said “it’s been pretty good for us this weekend, it's been a godsend. We ran out of beer, I had to send my wife to town to get more liquor and I’ve almost run out of food.”
Olander says he's been packed since Thursday.
"There's a lot of places east of us that have been shut down and everybody's coming here,” he said. “I appreciate it."
He said he's been lucky so far, but still he's worried that if fishing comes to a halt in Cypremort Point, his business will suffer.
