If you've been in downtown Lafayette in recent days, chances are you've seen a bright blue Airstream RV being towed through the streets by a pickup truck. Call it the road trip of a lifetime for Walter and Patrick Hessert, two brothers from New Jersey, who are criss-crossing the country with their Airstream, hoping to highlight the nation's small businesses.
"It's about promoting American small business and telling good stories about the American economy, across the country to inspire entrepreneurship," said Walter Hessert.
In the spirit of entrepreneurship, the Hessert brothers created their own mobile-marketing business called Million Dollar Road Trip. Since July of 2010, the Hesserts have been on the road, speaking to small-business owners across the country, living out of their RV.
"It's where we live and work," said Patrick Hessert.
Their goal is to sell $1-million in advertisements to small businesses, which are printed on the side of their Airstream, which they park at big events across the country like the Kentucky Derby and since they're in Lafayette this week, the Airstream will be visible at Festival International. A portion of the money raised then goes back to small business owners through grants.
"We'd love to have people stop by, find us at Festival International, share their stories with us, we've become a strong medium for sharing stories around the country and to have people follow us and nominate people as grant candidates," said Patrick Hessert.
