Cruelty to a juvenile arrest in Lake Charles

A 26-year-old woman is facing child abuse charges after a Calcasieu Parish school called deputies. School officials filed a complaint, on behalf of a 4 year old student at the school. Deputies say they noticed numerous bruises and marks on the victim; they say the suspect struck the victim with a sandal causing swelling and severe bruising on her face, neck and chest. Erica Wells, of Lake Charles, allegedly confirmed that information to deputies. She was charged with 1 count of cruelty to a juvenile; her bond was set at $125,000. The victim was removed from the home by the Department of Children & Family Services.
