A Crowley man is behind bars in Calcasieu Parish after allegedly stealing a police car from the Mermentau Police Department.
Lake Charles Deputy Police Chief Mark Kraus said Lake Charles police officers responded around 12:30 p.m. Sunday to a stolen police car entering the city limits.
He said officers arrived at I-10 and Enterprise Boulevard and found a stolen unit driving with its lights and sirens turned on.
Two State Police units were pursuing the stolen police car. The driver, 38-year-old Russel Shane Darbone of Crowley, refused to stop, Kraus said.
Lake Charles police officers joined the pursuit and were able to stop Darbone on I-10 at mile marker 29.
Darbone was booked into the Calcasieu Parish Jail for illegal possession of stolen things.
He was still in custody as of 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.
