A crime fighting tool for Lafayette Parish residents is now better than ever. The Crime View website has been re-launched with more updates and new alerts. The web based software collects data from 911 calls and determines statistics, laying them out in charts online.

"We think it's a positive thing," said CPL. Paul Mouton with the Lafayette Police Dept. "The thought process is that a more informed citizen is a better citizen to assist us in fighting crime."

By logging onto crimeview.lafayettela.gov, you can search incidents with Lafayette Parish that occurred within the past 90 days. Searches can also be narrowed down by specific cities and neighborhoods and incident types. Residents can also sign up to get email alerts when a crime is committed in their neighborhood.

"It can be very beneficial to the community," said Lafayette resident Kayla Guidry. "I think its very comforting because you never know who's around you. Now, I can be more aware of the things around me. As a parent I think it's going to be something very good for me to look into."
