NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A week after it was first reported, the Coast Guard says crews continue to clean up an oil leak from an abandoned well in Bayou Dupont in the Barataria basin.
The Coast Guard says more than 2,000 gallons of oil have been recovered. They say a boom has been placed in the water to contain the leak and about 60 workers are cleaning up the spill. Two oil skimmers are working the spill too.
The Coast Guard says one leak in the wellhead has been plugged and two other spots where oil was oozing out have stopped leaking.
The leak was reported to the Coast Guard on Sept. 11. Officials say Houston-based Cedyco Corp. owns the abandoned wellhead.
State officials say no wildlife has been hurt by the spill.
