Creswell Elementary to be Dismissed

10am:

According to CLECO officials, a wire within an underground pipe shorted causing smoke. CLECO line crew members were alerted and arrived at the elementary school to investigate. Crew Members noted that upon investigating there was no fire witnessed and that there was no load on the wire leaving the crew member to believe that the breaker at the school was cut.

CLECO crewmembers are reparing the line and are expected to have the issue repaired before the noon hour.

St. Landry Parish School Officials have requested that ONLY Creswell Elementary in Opelousas be dismissed at this time. According to school officials, a transformer fire was reported and the fire is within the wires heading towards the school. ALL STUDENTS AND STAFF ARE SAFE, there is no need for alarm. Officials are just asking that the school be dismissed at this time.
Buses are running and for those parents able, you are encouraged to pick your children up at Creswell elementary.
