Crawfisherman Dies After Boat Overturns

Authorities in Acadia Parish are investigating an early morning accident that occurred in a crawfish field on Boudreaux Road near Crowley.

According to Acadia Parish Sheriff Wayne Melancon his office received a call around 7:00 a.m. that a crawfish boat with an occupant had over turned. Upon arrival, deputies found that the 45-year-old male was attempting to change ponds when the boat overturned trapping him underneath.

The Acadia Parish Coroner’s Office pronounced the victim dead at the scene. His name is being withheld pending family notification.

His body has been taken to Calcalsieu Parish for an autopsy to determine cause of death.
