Crappell Pleads No Contest to Theft; Placed on Probation

A former Berwick councilwoman has been placed on probation after pleading no contest to a theft charge. Penny Crappell was accused of stealing $59,000 from Berwick Elementary School while working there as a secretary. Crappell was placed on a five-year conditional probation. She is required to pay over $77,000 in restitution, submit to random drug screening, and attend gambling addiction counseling.
