According to a news release, in January 2011, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office arrested John J. Baccigalopi, Jr., 44, and his wife, Jennifer M. Baccigalopi, 32, both of 6336 E. Opelousas Street, Lot # 24, Lake Charles, and charged both with 2 counts of indecent behavior with a juvenile. The charges stem from an investigation that revealed they had inappropriate sexual contact with a 15 year old family member on numerous occasions between September 2006 - January 2010. John Baccigalopi was also charged with aggravated rape after the investigation also revealed he engaged in inappropriate sexual contact with a 4 year old family member between January - December 2010. Judge Michael Canaday set John's bond at $750,000, and Jennifer's at $250,000.
During further investigation, detectives discovered between January 2008 - August 2009, while living with John and Jennifer Baccigalopi, Thomas L. Breaux, 28, a family acquaintance, had inappropriate sexual contact with the same 15 year old victim on numerous occasions, according to deputies. The investigation also revealed John and Jennifer Baccigalopi had knowledge of the inappropriate acts and failed to report the incidents.
Due to their knowledge of these acts, in May 2012 John and Jennifer Baccigalopi, who were already incarcerated in the Calcasieu Correctional Center on the initial charges, were both rearrested and both charged with 10 counts of principal to carnal knowledge of a juvenile; and principal to obscenity. Judge Michael Canaday set John's bond at $1,050,000, for the new charges, bringing his total bond to $1,800,000, and set Jennifer's bond at $1,400,000, bringing her total bond to $1,650,000. The Baccigalopi's were released from jail on supervised probation.
In June 2012, an arrest warrant was issued for Breaux, however, when CPSO detectives attempted to serve the warrant, it was learned Breaux had fled Louisiana and was incarcerated in Cranston, Rhode Island on charges of 1st degree child molestation.
On September 2, 2013, Breaux was extradited from the Adult Correctional Institute in Cranston, Rhode Island, to the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with 10 counts of carnal knowledge of a juvenile; 2 counts of obscenity; and 3 counts of indecent behavior with a juvenile.
Judge Michael Canaday set his bond at $850,000.
CPSO Detective Patty Bailey is the lead investigator on these cases.
