COVINGTON, La. (AP) - Five members of the Covington Police Department - including interim Chief Jack West - are in the pool of 16 applicants approved to take the police chief's exam Aug. 13. All but two of the applicants live in Louisiana.
The names of those who pass the exam will be forwarded to Covington Mayor Mike Cooper, who will select the next police chief.
West, who is serving as the department's interim chief, and Christopher Lang, the department's other captain, have both applied for the job. So have Sgt. Douglas Arrowood, Lt. Joseph Mayberry and Lt. Stephen Short.
Cooper tells The Advocate he would like a citizens committee, which will include the city's Human Resources Director Cheryl Andrus, to vet the applications and provide him with a group of finalists.
