LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - The Louisiana Supreme Court has ruled that
the Lafayette Parish School Board is not at fault for the claimed
2004 sexual abuse of a then-Lafayette Middle School student.
The ruling reverses a 3rd Circuit Court of Appeal decision that
said the board was partially at fault for the suspected rape of a
then-12-year-old student. No one was ever arrested in the assault.
The girl's family sued the school board
after she reported being assaulted while walking home from school
after detention. Her lawsuit claims she was told she couldn't ride
a bus available for students who stayed late for extracurricular
The attorney for the girl's family said his client is devastated
by the decision.
