NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A federal judge is expected to hold a status conference on the new agreement between the city of New Orleans and the Justice Department aimed at reforming the troubled New Orleans Police Department.

Officials said the meeting is set for 12 p.m. before U.S. District Judge Susie Morgan.

The agreement, known as a consent decree, was announced Tuesday by U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder. It came more than two years after Mayor Mitch Landrieu invited the Justice Department to investigate and report on problems with the scandal-plagued police department; and 16 months after Justice officials issued a report lambasting New Orleans police for unclear policies, discriminatory policing and excessive use of force.
