On Thanksgiving Day, KATC reporter Mike Magnoli didn't have to go far from the newsroom to find this next couple. They have very few earthly possesions, but they have each other.

"I'm thankful for my health and my new wife and my children's health,"

We met Charles and Judy Massengail at exit 101 off I-10 They live out of the back of an old Ford pickup and they've stopped in Lafayette for gas and food. The couple spent a few hours panhandling' at this spot as cars passed by, every few light changes, someone rolled down a window and gave them a boost.

"I'm just trying to get started back up," Charles said.
"It's hard we're trying to get home," Judy added.

Home is reno nevada.

The past few years have dealt Charles and Judy a lot of hardships:
A loved one killed by a drunk driver, medical problems- just yesterday their dog Toby was hit by a car but survived. Despite the heartaches:
"God has blessed me in so many ways, I do have a lot to be thankful for."

Life on the road is tough for Judy and Charles, they are deeply religous and enjoy few extravagances.

"Every few weeks we get to eat at a restaurant, a few weeks ago we got to go the Golden Coral."
And Charles and Judy, knowing the struggles of the road, help a lot of other people along the way.

"There are a lot of great people out there who do just need a few bucks to get on their feet- we never pass up a hitchhiker we take em no whatever what."

Charles and Judy, just passing through this Thanksgiving. Making the best of a hard situation--and thanks to the kindness of strangers, they're on the road again.
