Counterfeit Money at Target

Press Release: The Lafayette Police Department, members of the U.S. Secret Service Southwest Louisiana Financial Crimes Task Force, apprehended two suspects at a Target retail store in Lafayette, LA, last night. Marcus Williams (36) and Terra Liar (25) were both arrested while attempting to pass counterfeit money at the Target located at Louisiana Blvd in Lafayette. These two individuals are believed to be responsible for several incidents in which they passed counterfeit one hundred dollar bills at multiple Target locations in Lafayette and Houston, TX.

The counterfeit currency allegedly passed by the suspects was genuine five dollar bills which were printed over to appear as one hundred dollar bills. Held to a light, all the bills contained security features of a genuine five dollar bill, such as the Lincoln watermark and a security thread which read "USA FIVE".

One of the suspects was in the possession of an additional $4,600 of counterfeit one hundred dollar bills.

Further investigation has revealed that Marcus Williams is a federal fugitive wanted by the United States Marshal Service in Dallas, Texas on charges relating to Human Trafficking/Prostitution.

The United States Secret Service through its Southwest LA Financial Crimes Task Force is assisting in the investigation.
