The Lafayette City-Parish Council will vote Tuesday to pull a parks and recreation tax proposition from the April 6 ballot. Four councilmen authored the proposal, which would increase property taxes to pay for Lafayette's Parks and Recreation Deparatment.
Don Bertrand, one of the authors of the resolution, says he and other councilmen want to take a more comprehensive look at what other funding options exist. He says some councilmen feel the unincorporated areas should be obligated to help pay for parks maintenance because some parks are located outside of the city limits. Bertrand adds the council will watch what happens in the upcoming legislative session, because Governor Jindal's sales tax proposal could affect Lafayette's tax base if it is passed.
