Arnaudville is one step closer to having a French immersion center. The St. Landry Parish Council last night voted 7-1 to dissolve the hospital district that oversees St. Luke's Hospital, the proposed home of the center. The St. Martin Parish Council still must vote to dissolve the district before any action can take place.
The St. Luke's Hospital building and district have been the subject of much debate. Proponents of the immersion center say it would not only be a benefit to St. Landry Parish's French culture, but also an economic boon to the town. Opponents have argued that the building should be used for a medical purpose only, as tax dollars are used to fund the building.
