Council Set to Vote on Vetoed Budget Items

Earlier this month Lafayette City-Parish President, Joey Durel, vetoed several items in the 2009-2010 budget.

At Tuesday nights council meeting, council members will go item by item t discuss then vote on the vetoed items.

The council's elimination of GPS tracking systems in LCG and Lafayette Utilities System vehicles was vetoed, Durel is asking the council to put back $395,000 dollars to the budget for the systems.

Durel also vetoed the 7 positions the council reinstated. His proposed budget eliminated 14 positions.

The council will also vote on the vetoed overlay parking lot projects at two parish parks.

There will be no vote Tuesday on the pay increases for firefighters Durel nixed. This item is now only a discussion item. Officials want to do further checks and balances before the firefighters get a raise.
