The Iberia Parish Council may soon appoint the parish's chief financial officer. The parish government has been without a CFO since October, and some council members are frustrated with Parish President Errol Romo because he has refused to nominate anyone for the post. "We are trying to find out from the district attorney if we can do this," said Iberia Parish Councilman Roger Duncan. Duncan added, "He doesn't have a time limit to name a CFO, but we have to approve the budget, and a CFO is instrumental in getting everything situated."
The council will vote to approve the 2012-2013 budget Wednesday night. One week later, the council will consider an ordinance that would give the body power to prosecute a government official who violates the parish charter. The council will also consider a resolution that requires Romero and his assistant, Kelly Ball, to participate and cooperate in an investigation being conducted by former U. S. Attorney Donald Washington into alleged wrongdoings by Romero's office. The resolution would allow the council to subpoena Romero and Ball if they do not provided requested information to Washington by December 21.
