A coulee in Lafayette Parish is causing properties to shift even sink, creating dangerous conditions for some residents. The coulee in question is Coulee Bend.
It runs along I-10 crossing Moss street, moving west past I-49 then north through Acadian Hills Country Club.
Little by little, Dorothy Dutile is losing her land to the coulee. Every time it rains the coulee washes away the land. Dutile's fence has been rebuilt five times. She refuses to bring the fence back onto her property because she says there's no point, it keeps sinking.
"Through aerial shots the problem exists throughout the parish," said Councilman Kenneth Boudreaux.
Councilman Kenneth Boudreaux is addressing the problem. He's asked the council to include this project into next year's budget. The council said yes but right now there's no money attached to the project.
Boudreaux suggests building a concrete lining along the whole coulee. He says it could slow the water down and lessen erosion.
