PAINCOURTVILLE, La. (AP) - State police say a well control crew
has given up trying for a controlled burn at a wild well in
Assumption Parish, and drilling a relief well could take three to
six weeks.
Trooper Bryan Zeringue says La. 70 will remain closed from La. 1
and La. 996, and people will have to stay out of a half-dozen
houses within a mile of the well.
Those residents include Paul Cartwright, who manages No Problem
Raceway Park and lives at the raceway. He says that September is
one of the raceway's busiest months, and keeping it closed for six
more weeks would be a disaster.
He says the crews are doing all they can.
