Corps awards drainage contract for Jefferson

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has awarded a contract to improve drainage along two canals on the west bank of Jefferson Parish.
The corps awarded a $13.6 million contract to Merrick Construction LLC., a Louisiana-based company.
The work will take place on Justice and Oil Company canals. The corps says construction will be done by the end of 2013.
The job is part of the Southeast Louisiana Urban Flood Damage Reduction Project. The corps is doing a lot of work on the west bank to improve drainage.
