The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office has released the name and manner of death of the three-year-old boy who allegedly died at the hands of his mother's boyfriend. The coroner has ruled Julian Madera's death's a homicide, but further tests are necessary to figure out how the boy died, according to Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office Capt. Kip Judice. There are several possible causes of death, and the coroner must perform further forensic tests to determine exact cause of death.

Landon Broussard, 21, is charged with first degree murder. The toddler's mother, 22-year-old Laura Smith, is charged with principal to first degree murder.
