Copper Theft Arrests in Vermillion Parish

According to Vermilion Parish Sheriff Mike Couvillon, two people have been arrested and booked into the Vermilion Parish Correctional Center in relation to ongoing copper thefts throughout Vermilion Parish.

Sheriff Couvillon says that Anthony Hardy w/m dob 1987 of 122 Laura Street Abbeville has been charged with 1ct. of Simple Burglary with bond set at $7,500.00 and hunter Hull w/m dob 1990 of 5108 Longview Abbeville has been charged with 1ct. of Felony Theft bond set at $5,000.00.

Sheriff Couvillon says that the arrest are the result of a three month investigation into numerous copper thefts throughout the parish, and says that additional charges on the two aforementioned individuals as well as arrest of additional individuals will be forthcoming in the near further.

Sheriff Couvillon said that detectives have been working diligently to put these individuals behind bars, and says that aggressive patrol, unmarked surveillance, and covert operations have implemented in an effort to better protect our residents and their belongings.

If anyone has any information or observes any type of suspicious individuals and/or behavior in their area, they are urged to contact the Sheriff's Office at 898-4402.

Finally, in an unrelated incident, Detectives have recovered over $15,000.00 worth of stolen items from a metallic building in the Northwestern portion of the parish which included a Kawasaki Motorcycle reported stolen from Jeff Davis Parish, as well as a 73" flat screen tv and two shotguns stolen from a residence in Northern Vermilion Parish. Sheriff Couvillon says that an arrest warrant has been issued for Cary Bastian w/m dob 1987 of 15919 Gordon Rd. Rayne, La. in regards to this investigation. Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of Bastian are asked to contact the Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Criminal Investigations Division at 898-4403.
