NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A New Orleans cop who spit in the face of a
fellow officer as he was being handcuffed during an arrest for
drunken driving has resigned from the force and apologized.
David Ogozalek agreed to leave the force Friday in order to
avoid prison time for battery on a police officer and driving while
intoxicated in August 2009. Judge Robin Pittman sentenced Ogozalek
to six months in jail, all suspended, and ordered him to attend
meetings of Alcoholics Anonymous.
Ogozalek also apologized to Officer Floyd Jackson for spitting
on him during the arrest. According to the Times-Picayune, Ogozalek
and Jackson shook hands and embraced at the hearing's end.
Ogozalek had a .248 reading on a blood alcohol test. In
Louisiana, it's illegal to drive with a blood alcohol content of
.08 or higher.
