Head Start is an early childhood program for at risk three and four year olds from low income families. In 1999, the parents of the Acadia Parish Head Start chose St. Jude as a community outreach program they wanted to support. Every year for St. Patrick's Day the children and parents get sponsors for their children's participation in the annual "Trike-a-Thon". Bikes are decorated and entered in the Best Decorated Bike contest. Even if a bike isn't decorated the children get some time to ride their bikes on the school grounds. This is a great opportunity for the kids to build motor skills and get moving!
Since 1999, the Head Start parents have collected $37,565 in pledges for St. Jude. This past St. Patrick's Day Acadia Parish raised $2,690! Pictured below are kids from the Rayne Head Start bike contest. Peyton Credeur, Ian Cormier, Tamia Hollier, and Daylen Nero.
