A West Baton Rouge Parish jury has convicted Marcus Richardson of second-degree murder in the May 2012 fatal shooting of a Brusly High School student.
The Advocate reports the 24-year-old Richardson, who was convicted Thursday, will be sentenced Sept. 9. Second-degree murder carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison.
Authorities say the shooting death of Justin Warner was rooted in a longtime turf war between the Lukeville and Tombstone communities in West Baton Rouge Parish.
Authorities say the 18-year-old Warner was shot in the parking lot of the Louisiana 1 Exxon Truck Plaza about 10 p.m. May 13, 2012. They say the shooting came after Richardson got into a fight with several people at the gas station.
Richardson has argued the shooting was in self-defense.
